Jesus was living days of intense cost of energy: He was coming from Jericho, then went to Bethphage where He took the donkey. After He entered Jerusalem and departed toward Bethany. Leaving Bethany to Jerusalem happens this episode of the fig tree.
Why did Jesus choose to dry the Fig Tree? The Master of Life who had raised the dead, healed the sick, cast out demons, patiently taught sinners... We have at least 3 lessons to learn with the fig tree...
Jesus is the Lord! He gave life to plants, animals and men with a purpose, so He can take life when He wants.
Jesus wanted to teach His apostles that He had power to exterminate His enemies. Those days were the last before His terrible Passion. He wanted to make clear He had power, infinite power, and died just because He accepted to die for us and for our sins.
Jesus never destroys something if it is not to achieve a higher goal. He even put Himself to death!
Another lesso: appearance deceives! Jesus left home and did not eat anything. He looked to the fig tree, different from other, and didn´t find any fruit. The outside was beautiful but it has no fruit!
Religious people are this way: seem to be holy but lack the fruit of repentance!
What kind of tree am I letting grow in my heart?
The Lord may be pruning, trimming, disbranching you right now... You may be feeling punished by God, but it can be only a time for treatment...
Understand that the Lord is watching over you! He is taking care!
