God is no doubt our best friend! But He also gives us friends! Our friends are a treasure!
True friendship has a lot with loving and supporting without expecting something in return.
Ruth and Naomi teaches us a lot about friendship!
Starting by the names: Ruth means friend, companion. Naomi means my joy, my pleasure.
Ruth´s husband was Naomi’s son. So these women were connected by a marriage. Though Ruth had lost her husband to death, she insisted on going with Naomi because of their friendship. She did not want to lose her friend. They were faithful to one another.
Two simple women faced life together, clunging to each other and taking advantage of theirs qualities. Ruth was loyal when she has not to be, and Naomi was clever and far-sighted.
Ruth was a stranger, what counted against her, but she was helped by an older woman to overcome the difficulties she faced. She had the good sense to listen to the advices of Naomi. And Naomi was rewarded by Ruth's unfaltering loyalty.
Ruth reminds me of many people. Ordinary and young girls and boys, in common circumstances, with problems and concerns as many people.
Naomi was older and experient. She was the one who takes the initiative and gets things done. She was determined, persistent. Ruth felt in safe with her company.
So, after reading the book of Ruth we can think about relationships between people. Which kind of people we need to establish deep relationships: with that do not offer the security of always being on our side or with those who seek to live a full life? There are many unstable people, so absorbed in their problems whose temperament fluctuates all the time. Often, in addition to humor, these people change their minds easily, which can be destructive both for themselves and for those around them. We must be careful! What kind of security we can find in someone like that?
Seek to relate to people who are a blessing to your life.
Watch and pray!
And remember that everyone's best friend is Jesus!
In Him we can trust!
Always!
