Praying for the end of slavery

“In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery” (Exodus 13:14)

Pray for an end of contemporary slavery.

Pray for the end of the theft of the dignity and freedom of men and women working illegally in agriculture, orange groves, in the cane fields, in the extraction of latex, in charcoal production and mining.

There are no exact statistics on the number of workers from slavery in Brazil, but there are around 25 000 and 40 000 people working in these circumstances living under threat.

Let us pray that after the liberation from slavery, these workers find their place in society and in the job market with the right to equality and justice.

Praying for the end of child labor

“There is a time for everything,
    and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Let us pray for the end of child labor.

Let us pray for children who work on the streets.

Let us pray for the children who work as small domestic servants , almost a servitude scheme, exchanging work for shelter, food and education.

Let us pray for the conditions in which children work, with risks to their health and physical and moral integrity.

Let us pray for parents who force their children to work or deliver them to recruiters.

Let us pray for the whole society to be sensitive and fight for efficient measures to solve this problem.

Prayer Campaign: Day 45

Praying for  Security

“Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)

Pray for the Brazilian judiciary and prison systems.
Let us pray for all service providers in these areas.
Let us pray for projects to combat trafficking of  weapons and drugs.
Let us pray for the success of police work in the fight against organized crime.
Let us pray for peace in the urban centers and the borders of Brazil.

Praying for Health Services

“My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body.” 

(Proverbs 4:20-22)

Pray for the end of the neglect of health.

Pray for improving the quality of Brazilian health public service.
Let us pray for health professionals.
Let us pray for the sick who depend on them.

Prayer Campaign: Day 43

Praying for the Economy

“Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” (Ecclesiastes 11:4-6)

 

Let us pray for better distribution of incomes in Brazil.

Pray for no asset accumulation and economic exploitation.

Pray for a decreasing of economic dependence of Brazil in relation to other countries.
Pray that economic growth has a positive impact on socio-economic problems such as poverty and unemployment in Brazil.

Prayer Campaign: Day 42

Praying for Elderly

“Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers” (1Timothy 5:1)

 

Let us pray for the elderly in Brazil.

Let us pray for their health and decent treatment.

Let us pray for the caregivers and nursing homes for the elderly.

Let us pray for respect and appreciation of  the elderly.

Let us pray for families, that they may cherish their elderly. Pray for wisdom to know how much we have to learn from older people. With all their experience, they are like alive libraries.

We must learn how to take advantage of them, for instance, sometimes they lack the manual dexterity, but they are willing to find someone interested in the knowledge that they own.

We have lots of things to learn from them.
